Ferner Catalogue Autumn 2006

An A-Z of New Zealand Fine Art:  covering 120 years of New Zealand painting, and 90 artworks, the earliest artwork featured in this catalogue is an 1875 depiction of Greymouth River by Charles Decimus Barraud, the first president of the NZ Academy of Fine Arts.

Acclaimed artists Frances Hodgkins, Tony Fomison, Leo Bensemann and John Gully feature alongside artists whose names may be unfamiliar to some collectors: Leonard Long, an Australian artist brought to New Zealand to judge one of the Kelliher Art Awards in the 1970s; Molly Morpeth Canaday who studied with Christopher Perkins before pursuing her career in the USA; and Noel Cusa, the well-known British bird artist and illustrator, whose watercolours of New Zealand birds are painstakingly detailed.

Other artists featured in this catalogue include Helen Brown, Pat Hanly, Gwen Knight, Dame Eileen Mayo, John Reynolds and Sir Tosswill Woollaston.
