Artist Profile

Phillip Trusttum

Born 1940

Phillip Trusttum grew up in Canterbury and studied at the Canterbury School of Fine Arts from 1961 to 1964. He was awarded a QEII Arts Council Scholarship in 1966 and has represented New Zealand on a number of occasions, most notably in 1982 at the Sydney Biennale, in 1984 in New York and again in New York in 1985.

Trusttum lives in South Canterbury and is a prolific and particularly biographical painter: his garden, children's toys, travels and his wife's dressmaking, all appear in his work.

Included in most major exhibitions and touring shows since 1964, Trusttum is highly regarded and his work is represented in all major gallery collections throughout the country.
