Elinor May Constable
There is little known about Elinor May Constable other than that she was the wife of Hugh Golding Constable, FRGS, RIN, son of Capt Charles Golding Constable, RIN (who charted Persian Gulf), and grandson of John Constable, RA, the great landscape painter. The pair married on 12 July 1892 and had both a son and a daughter. It is not known what brought them to New Zealand in 1905 without further research of the Royal Geographical Society, of which Hugh Constable was a Fellow; or of the Royal Institute of Navigation (UK) of which he was a member. Other sketches in the suite include the Tasmanian coastline.
