This exhibition features paintings of some of New Zealand's most historic sloops built by Arch Logan in the late nineteenth century. Many are the most outstanding examples of Victorian design and craftsmanship. "Waitangi", for instance, is the largest surviving early Logan yacht, built of diagonal and horizontally planked kauri over kauri frames, purchased in Australia in 1986 by the Waitangi Syndicate, a group of Melbourne businessmen and sailors who undertook extensive research to restore her to her original condition. The work took eight years and in 2000, she was shipped to Auckland to participate in the Logan Classic, after which she was purchased by the Classic Yacht Charitable Trust of Auckland, returning home to sail in New Zealand waters permanently. Steve Harris has successfully exhibited in both New Zealand and Australia over the past 30 years and he has recently been invited to exhibit in New York.
