Matt Pine
Te Ati Haunui-a-Paparangi,Te Atiawa,Ngati Tuwharetoa Matt Pine was educated at WanganuiCollegiate School before studying at the University of Canterbury School of FIne Arts, Elam School of Fine Arts Auckland University and the Christchurch Teachers College. He then travelled extensively through the Far East, Africa, Europe and the USSR. Pine studied graphic design at the Central School of Art & Craft in London, and Photography and Sculpture at the Hornsey College of Art, London. He was the Frances Hodgkins Fellow in Dunedin in 1979 and held an extensive teaching career from 1976 to 1980. From 1999 to 2006, Matt Pine established the Te Wa/the Space Gallery in Wanganui and he is now establishing the Te Wa Sculpture Park at Tangimoana. Pine's work is predominantly abstract minimal construction/deconstruction sculpture incorporating a variety of media including wood, plastic, metal, stone, glass, cast aluminium and digital. He is also known for his paintings (acrylic and enamel), drawing and digital documentation.
